However, we are seeing a serious cultural and methodological delay in protection, enhancement and communication policies, as well as policies regarding our concept of archaeological museums and parks, which often still subscribe to antiquated, academic and elitist approaches.
Archaeology could have an important role in contemporary society, constructing ‘social memory’, promoting cultural growth, initiating a proper debate between identity and otherness, aiding territorial planning and envisaging new forms of development. It proposes the adoption of two key terms: ‘globality’ and landscape. a multidisciplinary, integrated and ‘holistic’ approach to archaeological matters – as applied to landscapes and public archaeology.
